Burn the Ships

Burn the Ships

I often talk about my long days or dedication to this entire operation, BUT.... I have a secret to my passion and the truth is that We are all in on this, No turning back, We are fully  committed to not only this business but the lifestyle in general.

There's a certain kind of clarity that only comes when retreat is no longer an option. Running a farm business—especially a family farm—isn't just about soil, seasons, and sales. It's about commitment. The kind that asks everything of you. The kind that doesn't leave room for "maybe."

The phrase "burn the ships" comes from a legendary military strategy: upon arriving in a new land, leaders would order their ships destroyed, eliminating any possibility of retreat. The message was simple—there is no going back, only forward. In business, and especially in farming, this mindset means fully committing to your vision. No half-measures. No safety net. You show up every day with the belief that success isn't optional—it's necessary. When you burn the ships, you stop asking "what if this fails?" and start asking "what must I do to make this work?"

The Reality Nobody Really Talks About

There are moments in quail farming that never make it onto social media.

The failed hatches.

The random losses.

The stress of trying to scale responsibly.

The exhaustion of handling farm work all day and then switching into “content creator mode” at night.

The feeling of watching other farms online grow faster and wondering if you’re falling behind.

The financial pressure.

The uncertainty.

The isolation.

A lot of people see a clean video of birds running around and assume the business is thriving.

What they don’t see is the person behind the camera trying to figure out how to make enough sales to justify continuing another season.

That’s the part entrepreneurship books don’t really explain.

When you burn the ships, every setback feels heavier because there’s nowhere mentally to retreat to.

This isn’t a hobby anymore.

This is survival.

But strangely enough, that pressure also changes you.

It forces you to become resourceful.

It forces you to learn skills you never expected to need.

Marketing.
Video editing.
Sales.
Branding.
Customer service.
Shipping.
Problem solving.

You either adapt or you disappear.

And honestly, I think that’s why a lot of small farms eventually become so resilient.

Not because it’s easy.

But because they had no choice except to figure it out.

Building a farm from the ground up with that mentality changes how you see everything. Every early morning, every late night, every risk—it all carries weight because you've decided this path is the path. But along the way, you'll notice something important: not everyone will understand what you're doing. There will always be critics, doubters, and complainers. Here's the truth—they aren't your customers. They never were. The people who question your pricing, your methods, or your vision from the sidelines aren't the ones sustaining your business.

Instead, something incredible happens. Your biggest supporters often come from places you never expected. Complete strangers—people who connect with your story, your work ethic, and your authenticity—become your loudest advocates. They show up at markets, share your name with friends, and believe in what you're building sometimes even more loudly than those closest to you. That's the power of putting your whole heart into something real. People recognize it.

There's a certain kind of clarity that only comes when retreat is no longer an option. It's the clarity that separates dreamers from doers. Running a farm business—especially a family farm—isn't just about soil, seasons, and sales. It's about total commitment. The kind that asks everything of you. The kind that doesn't leave room for "maybe." The kind that demands you show up, day after day, with unwavering resolve.

The phrase "burn the ships" comes from a legendary military strategy: upon arriving in a new land, leaders would order their ships destroyed, eliminating any possibility of retreat. The message was brutal and clear—there is no going back, only forward. Victory or nothing. In business, and especially in farming, this mindset transforms everything. It means fully committing to your vision with no half-measures, no safety net, no excuses. You show up every single day with the unshakeable belief that success isn't optional—it's necessary. When you burn the ships, you stop asking "what if this fails?" and you start asking the only question that matters: "what must I do to make this work?"

They're just noise.
